Coach – Emily Monroe-Jones
Coach – Janet Christensen
Emily Monroe-Jones is a USAT Certified coach and personal trainer, focusing on endurance training and functional fitness. She is a recent transplant to the Cache Valley, arriving when her husband became a Utah State assistant basketball coach. The wonderful surroundings and slower pace lifestyle of Logan has allowed her to spend more time on her bike, running trails, training clients and with family.
Before having 2 kids, she was a student athlete at the University of Utah. Her love of training and sport was solidified by 4 years of collegiate swimming, where she was awarded WAC Academic All Conference 3 times. After graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology and a minor in Chemistry, she devoted the majority of her time to being a mother and wife. In her spare time she continued to teach group fitness classes, train clients and broaden her perspective with certifications in Pilates, kick boxing, spinning and TRX.
When her kids became school age, she developed and implemented a masters’ swim program, as well as a triathlon training camp and continued her quest to become a better coach. Emily wanted to improve her ability to teach triathletes to swim more efficiently, so she worked with and learned from a Total Immersion swim coach. Since moving to Logan in January 2009, she has been running a successful Masters’ Swim program for all levels at the Sports Academy Racquet Club. She is very excited to broaden her athlete base through the Tri-Cache SA team.
Emily believes that anyone can compete in the sport of triathlon and be successful. She became a certified USA Triathlon coach to help athletes train smarter through better training plans, technique and preparation. She utilizes the new TRX suspension system to reduce the chance of injury and improve performance.
Emily maintains that anyone can be a triathlete, swimmer, cyclist or runner. Only 3 things are necessary: desire, commitment and a plan. She would love to use her broad perspective to help you reach your goals. There is a personal touch with all athletes in the Tri-Cache SA team. Her passion is coaching for success.
Janet has always been involved in athletics; first earning a spot on the BYU gymnastics team and then, after a career ending injury, transferring to diving. She took her first competitive dive as an 18 yr old and competed successfully for 4 years in Division I diving, where she became a 2 time NCAA qualifier.
After her college career she spent 25 years coaching diving, studying the movement and placement of the body. She has been a certified coach resulting in 9 individual High School State Champions and 10 High School state team titles. Many of these divers have continued on to achieve college scholarships.
She has a love of sport at all levels, dabbling in tennis, fast pitch softball, running and then eventually landed in her passion Triathlons. Janet hit the triathlon scene full force 6 years ago, studying, training and learning through experience. Over the last couple of years, she has been transitioning her diving coaching experience into triathlon coaching skills with the help of a mentor. Her wealth of coaching experience, knowledge of movement patterns, and mental preparedness skills make her an asset to any performance training plan.
She has added a new dimension to the masters’ swim program with her adept ability to see connections or lack of connections between movement patterns and power. Coaching master swim over the last year has made her want to progress her coaching and be a part of this new Tri-Cache SA program. Improving athletes of all abilities is her motivation and passion.
She has been married for 29 years, caring for 4 children (2 married, a BYU diver and a Sky View Senior) and 2 grandchildren, which keep her busy between training sessions. She is a Texan at heart which prefers the hot weather but is willing to brave the cold to attend USU Men’s basketball games.
