Success Tips for the New Year!
January 5, 2013

With the new year approaching, it is no secret that many of us want to improve out health and fitness as one of our new years resolutions. Here are a few tips to get you of a path of success!!

1. It’s not all or nothing. Follow the 80/20 Rule!

Many times when we start a fitness related goal we think that we need to completely change our eating and exercising habits overnight and become “perfect” from day 1. If you want to become successful reaching your new years goals, follow the 80/20 rule. This means 80% of the time you are really….really good! You eat healthy and hit your workouts and 20% of the time you can relax , have fun and not worry about your fitness goals. This will keep you on track for the new year and make sure you hit your goals without getting “Burned Out.”

2. Get Adventurous

Try new activities every week to avoid boredom. Get outside and go; biking, hiking, swimming, rock climbing, or skiing. Get a gym membership and involve yourself is group training classes and personal training. Just try new things to mix it up.

3. Opt for Vegetables

Vegetables are very low calorie and provide us with a lot of healthy nutrients and fiber. Due to the low calorie content of vegetables, you can almost eat as much of them as you want with no worries of exceeding your calorie intake. So when you are headed to the fridge or need a snack choose vegetables and you will also find great results.

4. Find an Exercise Buddy

Studies show that individuals that attempt a fitness goal with a partner are more successful. So pick a partner that has similar goals to you and get it done! Reward yourselves frequently for hitting smaller goals and don’t let each other down.

5. Simplify and Breathe

Simplify your life and feel the stress that’s reduced when you do so. A great message we can all live by this time of the year. Also…take time out of your schedule to have some quiet time and breathe. This will help decrease stress, and enhance clarity and serenity in your life.

Do these 5 things and get started on a path of health and fitness for this new year!
